Project Description

The aim of the project is to study the cellular localization of the E. coli UPP phosphatases: BacA, PgpB, YbjG and LpxT, involved in the peptidoglycan biosynthetic cycle. To do so, fusions of these proteins with GFP are used to determine their localization and dynamics in living E. coli cells using epifluorescence. Another aspect of the project consists in studying the interconnection between these UPP phosphatases and the peptidoglycan synthesis machinery (essential to the functioning of the divisome and the elongasome), in order to identify possible partners of these UPP phosphatases. The identified partners could be determinant in a given localization of the UPP phosphatases.
